چکیده

Research support from the Sol Snider Center for Entrepreneurship at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and the Division of Research, Harvard Business School is gratefully acknowledged. We have benefited from the comments of seminar participants at the Dallas ORSA/TIMS Meeting; Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago; Sloan School of Management, MIT; Anderson School of Management, UCLA; the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; University of Wisconsin, and Columbia University. We thank John Lafkas and Sid Winter for their comments on the prior draft and the Associate Editor Rod Kramer and two anonymous reviewers who played an important role in the development of the paper by constructively prodding us to clarify our arguments. Finally, we thank Linda Johanson for her thoughtful editorial help. We used computer simulations to examine the role and interrelationship between search processes that are forward-looking, based on actors' cognitive map of actionoutcome linkages, and those that are backward-looking, or experience based. Cognition was modeled as a simple, low-dimensional representation of a more complex, higher dimensional fitness landscape. Results show that, although crude, these representations still act as a powerful guide to initial search efforts and usefully constrain the direction of subsequent experiential search. Changing a cognitive representation itself can act as an important mode of adaptation, effectively resulting in the sequential allocation of attention to different facets of the environment. This virtue of shifting cognitive representation, however, may be offset by the loss of tacit knowledge associated with the prior cognitional

Assessing the Iranian Fiscal Sustainability in Past and Future through Tax Side of the Economy

This paper, I have focused on the tax side of the fiscal policy to  investigate the past and future behavior of fiscal sustainability in Iran. To do so, I have employed two different forward-looking and backward-looking approaches. First, the backward-looking approach is the fiscal policy rule proposed by Daving & Leeper (2011). Precisely, this rule determines that whether the fiscal policy is ...

The Empirical Relevance of Simple Forward- and Backward- looking Models: A View from a Dynamic General Equilibrium Model

Recent research have provided evidence that backward-looking models fit the data well while purely forward-looking models seem to be inconsistent with data. Consequently, many recent papers in the monetary policy rule literature have used “hybrid” models, which contain both backwardand forward-looking components. In this paper, I demonstrate that a dynamic general equilibriummodel with flexible...

Inflation Dynamics in a Dutch Disease Economy

Abstract In this paper, the effect of foreign sector macro-variable on inflation dynamics and firms’ pricing behavior has been investigated in the context of a small open economy New Keynesian Phillips Curve. This curve is derived and estimated for a developing oil-exporting economy suffering from Dutch Disease. This version of NKPC is an extension of Leith and Malley’s (2007) small open econom...

تخمین قیمت‌های نقدی روزانه‌ی گازطبیعی با استفاده از مدل حرکت هندسی براونی

This paper aims at estimating Geometric Brownian Motion (GBM) Model, based on two central parameters in this model (volatility and drift), and forecasting Henry Hub natural gas daily spot prices (07/01/1997-20/03/2012). Researches reveal that two mentioned parameters estimation can be satisfied with different approaches and in various time scales. Therefore, two approaches of backward looking a...

Towards a Formalization of Responsibility

In this paper we aim at formalizing two distinct notions of responsibility: backward-looking responsibility and forward-looking responsibility. The first notion implies blameworthiness while the second one implies obligation. They are related to each other though, since, under certain conditions, forward-looking implies backward-looking. We claim here that an ideal framework of cooperative agen...
